Chipotle sauce is a fast and easy way to add smokiness, spice, and zest to any dish. It may be poured over tacos or used as a creamy dip. In any event, you can make this dish using a small number of pantry staples.

The best ways to improve food are using sauces and spices. In Mexican-inspired cooking, chipotle sauce (or chipotle crema) is a fierce rival for that creamy, spicy, and addictive flavor. If you've never made it at home before, let me show you how easy it is to do.

What kind of peppers are in adobo sauce?

The chipotle chiles in adobo are the main ingredient in this handmade sauce. But just what is it? However, there are more factors at play. Red jalapenos must be smoked and dried in order to make chipotle peppers. A smooth, tangy, and sweet sauce called adobo is created from dried chili peppers.

They are sold in jars because they make a tangy, hot, and highly delectable combination.

A strong, smokey heat may be added using chipotle chiles. Add a spoonful of the sauce instead for a subtle, spicy sweetness. It goes without saying that it makes for a highly versatile pantry essential if you prefer to add a spice boost.

Using a food processor to combine the ingredients for the chipotle sauce.

Create Your Own Chipotle Sauce

It's possible that you already have the ingredients on hand. The ingredients need only be processed in a food processor until they are creamy and smooth. There is no easier solution!

  • Mayo must be the starting point for every chipotle sauce.
  • increases the richness and gives a hint of flavor from the sour cream.
  • Chipotle chiles in adobo are the major ingredient that give this sauce its smoky and spiciness.
  • Citrus Juice: The acidity balances the heat.
  • Garlic and salt help to harmonize the flavors.

Can you use chipotle powder?

If you can't find any, a dried and ground kind of chipotle peppers would work in a hurry! Just keep in mind that 1 dried chipotle pepper is equivalent to 1/2 tsp. of chipotle powder. If you feel that's not enough, you can always add a bit extra and stir it again.

Applications for Chipotle Sauce

  • Now that you have your sauce, have fun. I like to use the sauce in my creamy chipotle shrimp to give it that delicious smokiness. But there are many uses for it. Here are a few ideas.
  • You may dip it in chicken and black bean wraps, baked yuca fries, baked zucchini fries, or curly sweet potato fries.
  • Pour it over shrimp tacos, chicken fajitas, carne asada tacos, salmon patties, chicken, or chicken fajitas.
  • Include it on top of the carne asada fries, taco salad, and carnitas burrito bowl.

Different Variations

  • If you want to accommodate a dietary need or switch up the flavours, here are a few options.
  • To make it dairy-free, swap out the sour cream with cashew sour cream.
  • To make it vegan, use cashew sour cream and vegan mayonnaise.
  • To give it extra flavor, add another half of a chipotle pepper to the food processor.
  • a glass jar with chipotle sauce being dipped into.

Storage Tips

Spooning chipotle sauce into an airtight container allows you to store it in the fridge for up to a week.

You'll probably only need a quarter of the can when keeping leftover chipotle peppers since the sauce and peppers have a strong flavor. So I suggest freezing them in a freezer-safe bag or glass container. They last for around three months and may be swiftly defrosted whenever you're ready to use them.

Additional Creamy Sauces That Are Delectable

Here are a few of my favorites, which I like using as dipping sauces, over rice bowls, or on tacos. Enjoy!

  • Orange Crema
  • A tahini sauce
  • Tzatziki
  • vegan tzatziki
  • Vegan Alfredo sause
  • a glass jar with chipotle sauce being dipped into.
